You know, I’ve got probably 100 blog post ideas saved in a draft here. I almost never come back to them and write them.
I thought this was strange, so I decided to ask myself why?
You know what? I think the answer is that if I don’t write it when the idea strikes, it wont get written. Period. Once the idea has gone and I’ve written down the core of an idea and then left it…the love it gone. When I come back to that post title or core idea later, it feels more like an assignment, like work than it does something fun to write to about.
That really sucks because there’s a lot of good stuff in there…disjointed ideas not fully formed and birthed, waiting to be given life and shared. But if I leave it when it’s fresh and don’t run with it, it dies….usually.
This post is one of the exceptions…I had the thought and I’m typing it out as I work through my thoughts in pseudo-real-time (I mean sheesh, I’d like to think that I can think faster than I can type).
Since I vowed that this blog had but one metric for success – me enjoying it/having fun, I fear that these seeds of ideas may never see the light of day ::taps slowly plays:: ::sniff sniff::
I have the same problem, but there aren’t 100 drafts saved online … instead they’re all in Word Mobile format on a PDA. Before writing anything, I create mind maps so that I have all the talking points and it’s just a matter of putting sentences around the main ideas. That said, it doesn’t always happen.
Hopefully you can break out of the draft rut and get some of your great content online soon
i agree that ideas are always best worked on when they first pop up. however, i still think that it is a good strategy to write down ideas to work on them later. don’t play taps just yet; you never know when the inspiration might strike to finish the job later, or to integrate one of the ideas into something else you’re already working on….
Try to always bring a pen and a notepad if you want to save some ideas of your and it will really help you to remember. You have to do something for you to be more productive or else you will stay like always “I forgot”.
I like that the one idea you made sure to write in full was about your thought that you never follow through and write your thoughts.
Sounds like my home reno plans

you know, it’s not always easy to connect fun with work or self imposed duty, or just goals.
sometimes one have to do stuff just out of feeling of duty, or for providing value to readers, to help others.. and that is fun too

maybe not as smili’ joky’ type, but still
bye, chris
why not just post whatever you wrote down when the idea first strike. It doesn’t have to be a whole article. Just the core of an idea can really engage the minds.
I think it’s better to start giving a try to your ideas instead of write a note about them.
I wish I had the problem of to many blog ideas. Most of the time I struggle with ideas to write about.
You did a very good job, according to me I won’t write blog post regularly. if i have a good mood to write post I will write the posts and save it.As I am using WordPress blog I found it is very easy to make it draft and to publish later.
